About Terik Hashmi, Esq.

Immigration & International Law

Terik Hashmi, Attorney at Law | Immigration & International Law

With more than 25 years of elite legal practice, Terik Hashmi has built an international reputation as a champion of immigrants’ rights, a trusted advocate for human rights, and a skilled strategist in U.S. immigration and international law. Throughout his distinguished career, he has represented an extraordinary range of clients—from individual asylum seekers to global investors, business leaders, and even a former head of state.

Mr. Hashmi has been at the forefront of some of the most significant and complex cases in immigration law. He was chosen as Personal Immigration Attorney to former Venezuelan President Carlos Andrés Pérez, successfully representing him in one of the most high-profile political asylum cases in U.S. history. His Washington, D.C. firm also served as the exclusive immigration law provider to Immigration Directors, LLC, an organization composed of former directors of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and U.S. Customs Service. In Miami, his firm was selected by the Government of Venezuela to safeguard the integrity of its first-ever presidential referendum held abroad, and he has overseen national citizenship drives and immigration initiatives for leading organizations, including the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) and the Archdiocese of New York.

Educated at Miami University, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, the University of Salzburg, and the McGeorge School of Law (University of the Pacific), Mr. Hashmi holds both a Juris Doctor (J.D.) and two Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees, with specialization in transnational business practice. His international experience began in Brussels, Belgium, where he trained with a French law firm, lectured at European universities, and appeared before the European Court of Justice on matters involving U.S. businesses operating in the European Union.

Mr. Hashmi has personally served as lead counsel in over 200 federal courtroom trials, representing clients before U.S. Immigration Courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and federal courts nationwide. He is recognized as an authority in federal removal defense, asylum, and humanitarian protections under U.S. law. A published author on U.S. immigration and nationality law, he has also written on the intersection of immigration policy and global industries.

Fluent in French and originally from Quebec, Canada, Mr. Hashmi brings a deep understanding of international cultures, languages, and legal systems to his practice. Beyond the courtroom, his unique background includes time as a professional basketball player in Europe, an experience that enriched his global perspective and shaped his lifelong commitment to teamwork and perseverance.

For nearly three decades, Terik Hashmi has dedicated his career to defending the rights of immigrants, advancing human rights, and helping individuals and businesses navigate the complexities of U.S. immigration law with integrity, compassion, and excellence.
